Spice market

Spice market Istanbul

Originally it was the Venetians and the Genoese who came to sell rare spices, hence its current name. Architecturally more interesting than the Grand Bazaar, the Spice Market has nearly 100 shops where you find all kinds of spices as well as flowers, small animals, honey and pastries. The market is part of the Yeni Valide Mosque and is very close to the Galata Bridge. If you want to immerse yourself in a truly oriental atmosphere, this visit is a must. The market is closed on Sundays.

How to get there : By tram "Karakoy" stop on the blue line (3TL one way). At the bridge by tram Karaköystop, blue line, reckon on paying 3 TL one way). Cross the bridge and the road. Warning, do not be alarmed by the influx of traffic and the lack of pedestrian crossings, there is an underpass to the right of the bridge to enable you to reach the other side of the street safely.
