Travel by foot, carriage, bicycle, take your pick but motor vehicles are not welcome.
The main island, Buyukada, covers an area of 5km ²’ ; we recommend that you take a small supply of food and drinks on arrival on the island and then lose yourselves away from the beaten track and away from Çankaya Caddesi and its army of frantic horse-drawn carriages.
There are bike rental shops but bear in mind that you may miss some places where the road is extremely steep.
Feet on, water bottle and sandwiches in your back pack ? Get ready to explore ! Discover a quiet local life organized away from the big city, where sumptuous villas and apartments mingle with more modest homes which are inhabited throughout the year. If you are feeling courageous climb as high as you can until the neighbouring islands emerge ; on a clear day you can see the whole of Istanbul. A little piece of advice: before you commit to a long walk, make a note of the time table to return to Istanbul.
