Best Natural Wonders in Austria
Austria is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. It was also one of the most powerful and richest for centuries which partly explains the beauty of cities like Vienna Graz and Salzburg. Such beauty is not just the work of patrons and it seems that Mother Nature has decided to give this country some of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe. From the green lake in Styria to Krimml Waterfalls, Vorderer Lake and the Zillertal Waterfalls, discover the best natural wonders of Austria.
Tragöß - Styria
This magnificent emerald green lake is ephemeral. It is only visible a few weeks a year. You have to wait for the snow to melt to see the lake fill with water which covers all the vegetation (which gives it this green colour). In order to preserve its magnificent emerald green colour, the region now educates travellers and discourages them from diving into the water to preserve the ecosystem of this unique place in the world.
How to get there: Book your flights to Graz and drive to Tragöß (1 hour by car).
Where to stay: “Gästehaus im Priesterseminar Salzburg” Stay in the heart of Salzburg in a Baroque building.

On the other side of the shore you can admire "Maria Wörth" another small town also ranked among Austria's best hidden gems. Formerly inhabited only by a few poor peasants, the lake has seen the houses of the Viennese nobility bloom all over the place, who came to settle there following the construction of a “Sûdbahn” railway line, the southern line. This is also what happened to the town of Arcachon located in France, but that is another story.
