De Haar Castle

Utrecht

This incredible castle is located a few minutes from the beautiful city of Utrecht ranked among the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands. The first castle built at this location dates back to the 14th century. Time and wars have taken their toll and there is nothing left today of the original castle. In the 20th century, the Rothschilds invested a small fortune to erect this magnificent castle. They left nothing to chance and chose the same architect as the Rijksmuseum, a museum listed among the most beautiful museums in Europe.

De Waag

Amsterdam

"De Waag" means the weight. This small but imposing building was one of the fortifications of the city of Amsterdam in the Middle Ages. It was not a castle but a medieval fortification that over the years has performed various functions; today, it hosts a bar-restaurant on the ground floor and upstairs an Art  Foundation.

As the city of Amsterdam is built on moving ground, many have been predicting the fall of this small castle for many years but it still stands here after nearly 7 centuries.

Book your flights and accommodation at the best price in Amsterdam as well as your tours and activities in Amsterdam such as a "3-hour guided bike tour of historical Amsterdam".

Eastern Gate

Delft

We must admit that we found this building so beautiful that we had to include it in this ranking of the most beautiful castles in the Netherlands. Obviously, it is not really a castle despite its two turrets, but a gate which allowed to control the access to the city of Delft. This gate, built in the 14th century was connected to a series of medieval fortifications. It no longer protects the entrance to the city but is home to its happy owners; they have restored this magnificent building to live in one of the most original houses in the Netherlands.

Book your flights for Rotterdam-The Hague Airport (located 20 minutes by car or by train from Delft) as well as your accommodation for the best price and your tours in the Netherlands such as a "Delft guided walking tour".

Opening hours: This building has been converted into apartments and is not open to the public.

How to get there: Book your flights to Rotterdam/The Hague airport and reach Delft (20 minutes by car or public transport).
