We invite you to visit Cittadella, the most beautiful walled city in all of Europe. Cittadella is located in the heart of the Veneto Region, in Northern Italy, in a strategic position because it is close to all the most important cities in the area. It is located 60 km from Venice and Verona (1H by car), and only 3h drive from Milan or Florence.

From Cittadella you can easily reach both the sea of the Venetian Lagoon and the mountains, the Dolomites, with a daily trip. It is therefore an ideal starting point, given its central position, to visit the Veneto and all of Northern Italy.

In addition to being a nerve center of great cultural and historical interest, it is the starting point for exploring the surrounding area. Cittadella is not only the most beautiful walled city in all of Europe, it is also the best preserved walled city in all of Europe.

Its origin is medieval, its foundation dates back to 1220. This explains the high historical value of its walls, which in 2020 celebrated 800 years of history and foundation. The walls are impressive and are the symbol of all the walled cities in the area because Cittadella is the only walled city in all of Europe to have a medieval walkway, elliptical in shape and completely walkable. This means being able to live the unique experience of being able to walk at a height of 15 meters along the entire perimeter of the city, as the soldiers who defended this territory did at the time. For this reason, Cittadella has obtained numerous awards and titles, such as that of the First Venetian City of Culture in 2020. In 2021 Cittadella commemorated the eighteenth century of the death of Dante Alighieri, the most famous Italian poet, who named the walls in his work the Divine Comedy.

In 2023 Cittadella will celebrate 10 years since the complete restoration of the parapet walkway above the medieval walls.

Despite its notoriety and its unique historical and cultural characteristics, it remains a quiet provincial town of just 20,000 inhabitants. Cittadella is currently considered a "new tourist destination". It is a cultural and little-known destination within the classic itineraries of Italy. It is therefore still genuine and very typical because it has kept its local spirit and its dimension on a human scale. It boasts a medieval charm that has still remained authentic, and which today is highly sought after by the national and international tourist market that seeks true and satisfying experiences. It is the typical medieval Italian town to stay at at least once in a lifetime.

In the historic center, on the other hand, there are cultural monuments of great value and historical and artistic value, such as the Social Theater, the Duomo Museum and the Duomo, Palazzo Pretorio, the Oratory of the Savior. A lively town from a cultural and historical point of view, it boasts a calendar of events that can satisfy the visitor also from the food and wine point of view and interested in outdoor activities.
