Cittadella is located in the heart of the Veneto Region, in Northern Italy, in a strategic position because it is close to all the most important cities in the area. It is located 60 km from Venice and Verona (1H by car), and only 3h drive from Milan or Florence.
From Cittadella you can easily reach both the sea of the Venetian Lagoon and the mountains, the Dolomites, with a daily trip. It is therefore an ideal starting point, given its central position, to visit the Veneto and all of Northern Italy.

Its origin is medieval, its foundation dates back to 1220. This explains the high historical value of its walls, which in 2020 celebrated 800 years of history and foundation. The walls are impressive and are the symbol of all the walled cities in the area because Cittadella is the only walled city in all of Europe to have a medieval walkway, elliptical in shape and completely walkable. This means being able to live the unique experience of being able to walk at a height of 15 meters along the entire perimeter of the city, as the soldiers who defended this territory did at the time. For this reason, Cittadella has obtained numerous awards and titles, such as that of the First Venetian City of Culture in 2020. In 2021 Cittadella commemorated the eighteenth century of the death of Dante Alighieri, the most famous Italian poet, who named the walls in his work the Divine Comedy.
In 2023 Cittadella will celebrate 10 years since the complete restoration of the parapet walkway above the medieval walls.
Despite its notoriety and its unique historical and cultural characteristics, it remains a quiet provincial town of just 20,000 inhabitants. Cittadella is currently considered a "new tourist destination". It is a cultural and little-known destination within the classic itineraries of Italy. Walk on the unique medieval walkway in Europe
Cittadella is the only walled city in all of Europe to have a medieval parapet Walkway, elliptical in shape and completely accessible. For this reason it is considered one of the most beautiful and best preserved walled cities in Europe.
The parapet walkway is a panoramic walk 15 meters high above the city walls. The walk is almost two kilometers long. This visit is a unique experience in all of Europe to be able to “Walk on History”
Visit the elegant Theater
The Theater is located in the historic center. It is recognized for its elegant neoclassical façade and for the splendid frescoes that were created by Francesco Bagnara, the same artist who decorated the “La Fenice” theater in Venice. It is the jewel of the city.
Another artistic masterpiece, the Savior Oratory is a treasure chest of great value. From the late seventeenth century, it houses works by important international artists such as the frescoes by the French painter Louis Dorigny, and the marble busts by the Flemish Giusto Le Court.

Inside the Museum of the Cathedral there is a picture gallery, including the grandiose “Cena in Emmaus”, a masterpiece by the famous painter Jacopo Bassano.
Inside there are works of different nature, painting, sculpture and applied arts from different historical periods, starting from the fourteenth century. Noteworthy is the relic of the finger of Saint Mary Magdalene. Palazzo Pretorio, on the other hand, was the seat of political leaders during the period of the domination of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. Visiting its frescoes and old prisons will allow you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Renaissance period.

Every Monday and every Thursday morning there is the Market in the historic center, where you can find clothing and typical food and wine products.
Every third Sunday of the month there is the Antiques Market. In February Carnival is celebrated with parades in the square, from 14 to 17 April Cittadella hosts an international event on cheeses.
