It has been named Curry Capital of Britain no less than four times and has also been voted Britain’s most vegan-friendly city. In Ashton Lane, a cobbled West End street lit with fairy lights, you’ll find some of the city’s favourite restaurants, including the internationally renowned Ubiquitous Chip. The city also promises a great night out, with a huge variety of venues ranging from traditional pubs to stylish cocktail lounges.

 

The River Clyde provides stunning views, particularly at night when the city lights shine upon the water. Set along the water is the Riverside Museum: Scotland’s Museum of Transport and Travel, winner of the European Museum of the Year Award 2013. Entry is free and gives access to incredible exhibits of model ships, vintage cars and more.

 

Glasgow has produced many of Scotland’s finest artists, including Turner Prize winner Martin Boyce and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. House for an Art Lover in Bellahouston Park, designed by Mackintosh himself, is a lasting testament to his unique style and vision. Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum is free to enter and houses an outstanding collection, including works by the Scottish Colourists and the Glasgow School.

 

Glasgow has a fantastic music scene and is home to many of Scotland’s most successful bands and musicians - Franz Ferdinand, Belle & Sebastian and Travis, to name just a few. The city regularly welcomes major international artists and boasts numerous entertainment venues, the newest and biggest of which is the 12,000-capacity SSE Hydro, set to become one of the busiest arenas in the world.

Take a break in Kelvingrove Park
